A mellow Sunday

What a nice day it was today. It was nice we had a chance to get outside and enjoy it. It was a nice change from the 110 degree Las Vegas heat. My first weekend away from Brayden was a success. Tony and Grandma had fun and I enjoyed the time away. I actually came home with some money and got to stay at Ceasars and see Garth Brooks thanks to Aunt Helen's love of the slot machines and fun comp privileges that she gets.
After 2 days of fake casino air and slot machine over stimulation, it was nice to relax at home and hang out at the beach. And why is it your whole bag smells like a casino even some of the things you brought never made it outside of your luggage or the hotel room?

Happy 4th

We had a very fun 4th of July. It was great to spend the day with such festive friends and family.

Garage Sales

It is not a big secret that my mom and I love going to garage sales on Saturday. Yesterday Brayden & I drove around Leucadia. There was a lady who happened to work for a toy company and was selling all kinds of her samples for $2. Brayden hit the jackpot. Among his $2 toy windfall was a shopping cart cover - brand new and extra jumbo to fit over the giant Costco carts. I think the elastic for the one I made cost over $2 and the pattern I bought was old and the only thing I can use mine for is the wooded high chairs. So I was happy.

A few weeks ago I picked up a box of bark cloth swatches. Instead of having the box collect dust I decided to put the box to good use and make a quilt for our bed. Hopefully I will have it finished by next week.

7 months

Today is Brayden's 7th month birthday. We celebrated by having cheerios, raisins and applesauce for breakfast. The weather has been great and have daily walks to the beach.

Ready for summer

Brayden is definitely ready for summer. He is enjoying sitting up almost unsupported, eating anything other than rice cereal, playing in the water. Today was our first swim lesson. He loved it. We are looking forward to spending lots of time outdoors this summer.

Swim lessons with Agatha. I definitely knew summer is here when it takes 35 minutes to drive from Carmel Valley to Solana Beach taking the back way. I forgot about the Del Mar Fair overflow parking at Mary's Tack and Feed. It may have taking long, but worth the time investment.

A sunday project

So I followed a recommendation and purchased this book a couple of weeks ago. As I read on there are a couple of crucial items for succesful 5 minute bread we don't own. So of course I get excited at the idea of aquiring new cookware. I know the dangerous path it leads me down...All Clad. I am a secret snob of cookware. Lots of other companies make baking stones but I had to have the All Clad. Ever since I made mac and cheese for these kids I babysat in a 2 qt All Clad pan, I will forever be a loyal consumer. I have yet to purchase a pizza peel, but plan to soon. So far I am into this bread project for about $130.00. I figure in about 30-40 loaves, I will have recouped my money in savings from store bought bread. Don't be surprised if you come over to our house or invite us over we will most definetly be bringing or having artisian bread.

Moving on to things that cost less money.... A family hike.

Last memorial day was a nice day for a hike. I can't quite recall the name of the location but it is somewhere off the 52 freeway. We thought it would be a nice time to try out Brayden's backpack. We found out the hard way that he is still a little too small. Grandma had her stroller in the car and insisted we take it along since the hike was pretty flat. That lasted maybe a quarter mile before we had to park it under a tree of the side of the path. I really like her stroller and was really hoping it would be there when we got back. It was, however we crossed paths with a lady who asked us if was our stroller parked under the tree not too far from the start of the hiking path. We said yes. She then proceeded to tell us that she called 911 because she saw an abandoned stroller. The 911 call center told her it was a low priority. NO KIDDING silly woman. Who thinks to call 911 when they see a stroller with a fresh bottle and toys and blanket on a public hiking path? Most people would think that a goofy family tried to bring a stroller on a hike and the wheels got stuck so they left it behind. With 8 of us on a hike and a bjorn, we were not lacking in volunteers for holding the baby.

This strange diaper looking thing is the end result of my shopping cart cover project from the "Sewing for Dummies" pattern. Maja's blog was very inspiration in crafting something everyday. My goal was to finish this on or before Sunday. I have yet to try it out in a restaurant high chair or shopping cart.
